Past, present, and future are very distinct things. Or, at least, they used to be.
But that all changed when SCoURGE fucked everything up.
Imagine that everything is data and this is suddenly Digimon. Except less cute and more slightly disturbing creatures running around.
Now, imagine this universe is based on data. Like a computer. This computer. And from this computer is another world, designed to run for a little while, but not as permanent as the main server. Recently, the integrity of the second server has been compromised. The shattered and corrupted data, should it infect the whole of the second server, could infect the main one.
That's where we get what is called Flux. Flux is a curious state of being that randomly is assigned to random normal programs, or the average Joe and Jane. Initally it makes one's data unstable, but once controlled, Flux can be used to slip between the main server and the second server. The problem?
One: Flux is very hard to control.
Two: the second server has split into two parts in an attempt to save itself. One is an image of the past, that should enough time pass will eventually decend into the madness and chaos of its inevitable demise. And, of course, the other half is the corrupted future.
We shall call the main server the Present Tense. The corrupted data shall be Future Tense. And the image will be Past Imperfect.
Those in power in the world of Future Tense believe that those in Flux hold the key to saving them. Those from Past Imperfect desperately wish to keep them away. And the Present Tense doesn't quite realize there's a storm brewing, that there's an event on the horizon.
Something people don't realize is that those in Flux hold power in their hands. Their stamina will increase, their strength will double, their senses heightened. But there is a price to pay. The instances of that person in both of the other two other worlds will be deleted, and their remnant data forced into the one who has entered Flux.
It's enough to make someone go mad.
